You Don't Have to Go Back to Who You Were
Sometimes healing is described as getting back to normal.
But what if normal no longer exists?
Life changes us.
Loss changes us.
Relationships change us.
Caregiving changes us.
Divorce, illness, disappointment, parenthood, aging, and unexpected transitions can all change the way we see ourselves.
And sometimes, the person we were before no longer feels like who we are now.
The Pressure to Go Back
There can be an unspoken expectation that healing means returning to the person you were before everything happened.
But you don't have to go backward.
You can move forward.
You can take what you have learned and allow yourself to become someone new.
Getting Curious About Who You Are Now
Instead of asking:
"How do I get back to who I was?"
Try asking:
"Who am I becoming?"
What matters to you now?
What feels different?
What do you want more of?
What no longer fits?
What parts of yourself have been waiting for your attention?
There may be parts of you that learned to survive by staying quiet, keeping everyone happy, or putting your own needs last.
Healing can create an opportunity to meet those parts with curiosity rather than judgment.
There Is More Ahead
Your past deserves compassion.
Your present deserves attention.
And your future does not have to look like your past.
You are allowed to change.
You are allowed to begin again.
You are allowed to discover a version of yourself that feels more honest, more connected, and more fully alive.
